Privacy notice for applying for housing

Why are we asking for your personal information?

The information you supply in this application will be used to determine your application for housing made via the Home-Link choice based lettings service. This applies to your information and the information you supply about everyone in your household. The information you provide is used to assess your housing need and decide your level of priority. It is also used to assess suitability of specific properties if you are being considered for an offer.

6(1)(e) The performance of a task in the public interest

This is a (Public task) Statutory Duty as laid out in the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) we are unable to progress your application or provide this service to you without this personal information. If you do not or if you refuse to allow us to share information we will not be able to carry out the service for you and cannot be held responsible for any consequences to you of it not being carried out.

You hold the following rights with regard to the personal data you provide us:

Right to Access – You have the right to access (receive a copy) of your personal data and supplementary information.

Right to Rectification – You have the right to have any inaccurate or incomplete personal data rectified.

Right to object to us processing your personal data where you have an objection on “grounds relating to your particular situation”.

Right to Restriction – You have the right to request a restriction of the processing of your personal data in situations where it is inaccurate, unlawful, and no longer needed for the purposes for which it was originally collected.

Sharing your information

The information you provide may be shared with the government as appropriate to any national reporting requirements. It may also be shared with other statutory agencies (such as Adult & Children's Services) and health professionals (such as a GP, Community Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist) to confirm details you have given to us and help us prioritise your application correctly. We only share information that is essential for the assessment of your circumstances.

The information you give on this form is confidential. It will be accessible to the Council you have chosen as having a local connection with and they will use it to assess your housing need and allocate housing according to their lettings policy.

Where housing is provided by other registered providers they may see your information when you bid on their properties and will use this information to manage your bid.

We may process the information you provide to prevent and detect fraud in any of our systems and may supply information to government agencies, credit reference agencies, audit or other external bodies for such purposes. We participate in the governments National Fraud Initiative.

If any of the information we have about you is incorrect, please tell us, we are reliant on you assisting us to keep your information accurate and up to date.

Retention of your personal information

We only keep your information as long as necessary, for some items this will be dictated by law.

We do not routinely process any information about you outside the UK. We will not transfer your personal data outside of the EU.                       

The Home-Link service collects information from you on behalf of councils and housing association homes in Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk. The information that you provide to us is shared with the Council you have chosen as having a local connection with. You can find out more about how your information is used by contacting these councils directly

If you have a query regarding your rights please contact the Data Protection Officer of the council you have selected as having a local connection with.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) should you believe any part of this statement to be unlawful.
